Flagger Instructor | WSDOT Curriculum Update

This course is for current WA Flagger instructors certified through Evergreen Safety Council to learn the new WSDOT flagger curriculum.

Description

Evergreen Safety Council's WSDOT Curriculum Update course will train current WA flagger instructors in the curriculum developed by WSDOT. 

To remain certified, all instructors must complete an update class before January 1, 2026.  Instructors who do not complete the update course prior to the end of 2025 will have to re-take the full (3-day) instructor certification course.   

Course location

WSDOT Curriculum Update classes are available both in-person and online.  Please choose whichever option is best for you. 

Course outline

  • Part 1: WSDOT Flagger Course presentation by the Council's Primary trainer
  • Part 2: Administrative and procedural updates
  • Part 3: Student and Instructor exams

Course materials

A printed copy of the WSDOT Flagging Operations Manual (student handbook) will be shipped to the mailing address provided on your registration.  If you attend an in-person class, please be sure to bring your student handbook with you to the update class. 

The PDF copy of the student handbook can be downloaded from our website using this link: http://esc.org/wa-state-flagger-manual. The link to download the updated instructor materials (including exams, supplemental handouts, and PowerPoint presentation) will be included in your confirmation email.

* Please note: ATPs/Instructors will not be eligible to order the WSDOT student handbooks until the instructor has successfully completed the update course.  

Certification

Instructors who pass the student and instructor exams with a score of 90% or better, will receive a new WA Flagger card and Instructor Certification, both valid for 3 years.
