Description

Evergreen Safety Council currently offers Washington State Traffic Control Flagger Instructor certification courses by invitation only. In order to be eligible to attend the training course and receive your instructor certification, you must complete the steps outlined below.

STEP 1: Click here to complete our Washington State Flagger Instructor Application and submit the required documentation.  Required documentation includes the following:

  • Proof of TCS Course Completion. Per current WSDOT requirements, all Washington State Flagger Instructors must successfully complete a Washington State TCS course every 4 years, with the exam passed on the first attempt. You must submit proof of TCS course completion with this application.

  • Statement of Interest. Please write 200-700 words (1-3 paragraphs) about why you want to become a Flagger Instructor through Evergreen Safety Council. This letter should also include any presentation experience and/or work zone-related experience you may have. Be as specific as possible.

  • Current Washington State Flagger Certification card

  • Valid business license. You may disregard if your company is already an Authorized Training Provider (ATP) for Evergreen Safety Council.

  • Proof of commercial liability insurance. You may disregard if your company is already an Authorized Training Provider (ATP) for Evergreen Safety Council.

  • Driver license or government-issued photo ID

STEP 2: If your application is approved, you will receive a confirmation email with additional information and instructions for your class.

STEP 3: Authorized Training Provider (ATP) Agreement. All Instructors must be employed by or be a subcontractor of an ATP. Approved applicants must provide the contact information of the person at your company/organization who is authorized to review and sign the ATP agreement to flagger@esc.org (this is usually your direct supervisor or manager). The ATP agreement will be sent digitally via DocuSign.  The ATP agreement must be completed prior to attending the instructor course.  If your company is already an ATP, you may disregard this step.

STEP 4: Pay the $600 Instructor onboarding and initial training fee. Once the ATP agreement is completed, we will send you a link to register and pay for the course.

STEP 5: Complete the Council’s self-directed online Instructor Training. The online courses must be completed prior to attending the in-person portion of the Instructor certification course.

STEP 6: Attend and successfully complete the in-person, 3-day Instructor certification class. You must pass the open-book certification exam on the first attempt with a score of 90% or better.

STEP 7: Sign the Instructor Agreement. Upon successful completion of the Instructor class, you and the authorized representative from your company will both receive a digital copy of the Instructor Agreement to review and sign via DocuSign.

STEP 8: CERTIFIED! Once you have completed the steps outlined above, we will issue your Washington State Flagger Instructor Certification card that is valid for 3 years. Congrats!
