TCS | Washington State Certification
Washington State Traffic Control Supervisor certification course - In-person
Description
Traffic Control Supervisors (TCSs) oversee traffic control operations in temporary work zones. This 3 day online certification class draws on the latest industry standards and best practices established at the state and federal levels.
NOTE: This is an IN-PERSON class. Please make sure you have made arrangements to physically attend this classroom training.
What you’ll learn
This course includes presentations, exercises, and references to federal and state highway construction and traffic control standards. Participants receive a comprehensive training manual and supplemental reference materials to assist with on-the-job practical issues and performance standards.
Requirements
In order to receive your Washington TCS certification, you must submit:
- A valid Flagger certification from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, or Montana
- Verification of 2000 hours of work zone experience in the form of 2 signed letters (or 1 letter with 2 signatures). You can find more details about verification letters here.
If you do not have 2000 hours of work zone experience, you may still attend the course. If you pass the exam, you will be issued a Traffic Control Technician (TCT) certification rather than a TCS certification.
Schedule
Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to class so that you can get checked in. Your class is scheduled to last 8 hours each day, for 3 consecutive days. Morning and afternoon breaks, as well as a 30 minute lunch break, will be provided each day. On the final day of the course, you will take the Washington Traffic Control Supervisor certification exam.
Student materials
At the beginning of class, you will be provided with the student materials, which are yours to keep.
Certification
Washington TCS or TCT certifications will be issued to students who provide the required documentation as outlined above, attend the full 3 days of the course, and score at least 80% on the exam. Certifications are valid for 4 years.
As of January 1, 2023, WA TCS certifications will be issued in a digital format. You will receive an email with a PDF of your certification card, which you can save on a device (such as your mobile phone) or print.
All required forms and documents must be submitted and approved before your certification will be issued. Your certification will be mailed to the address you provide during registration.
Retests
If you do not pass the exam, you may contact our customer service team to schedule a one-time retest, free of charge. Retests must be completed within 30 days of your original class date.
